What Will You Learn?
Modern History explores changes in the world since 1750. In Semester 1, students investigate the conditions, ideas and social and political developments which led to the Russian Revolution. The course begins with a snapshot study of the USA in the 1920s.
At Stage 1, History focusses on essential research skills such as:
- developing the ability to critically analyse, interpret and use historical sources.
- learning to select and use reliable evidence to construct historical arguments
Students complete four summative assessment tasks:
- Assessment Type 1: Historical Skills - 75% - three assessment tasks (600 – 800 words each).
- Assessment Type 2: Historical Study - 25% - one assessment task. (1000 words)
Who Is This Course For?
This course is for students who:
- Have a keen interest in History and world events
- Would like to pursue a Humanities pathway in their future study or work
What Do You Need?
- Sound results in at least one semester of Year 10 English or above.
- Successful completion of Year 9 or 10 History is useful, but not mandatory.
- Access to the internet for your course work.
- Two textbooks, which will be sent to you.
