Stage 1 Physics B
Recommendations:
· Successful completion of Stage 1 Physics A (1PYI10A) in Semester 1 is strongly recommended for progression to Stage 1 Physics B (1PYI10B) in Semester 2.
· Students should have basic mathematical and problem-solving skills and be able to work independently.
What Will You Learn?
In this course, you will learn about:
· Waves: wave properties and behaviour, sound, reflection, refraction and the behaviour of light.
· Nuclear Models and Radioactivity: atomic nuclei, radioactive decay, half-life, nuclear reactions and their applications.
· Electric Circuits: electric current, potential difference, resistance, and series and parallel circuits.
· You will conduct safe investigations, analyse results, evaluate evidence, apply physics concepts and calculations, and explore science as a human endeavour.
You will have 4 summative assessment tasks:
- 2 Folio Tasks (a Science as a Human Endeavour Folio and a Deconstruct and Design Folio)
- 2 Skills and Applications Tasks (Topic Tests at the end of each unit)
Who is This Course For?
· This course is for you if you enjoy science and want to understand how the physical world works. It suits students interested in further study or careers in physics, engineering, technology, health, or related fields.
What Do You Need?
- NTSDE will provide students with a code to access an ebook textbook. If students would like a physical hardcopy of their textbook this may be purchased by their home school or themselves.
· NTSDE will send out non-returnable ‘Practical Investigation Kit’s at the end of Term 1 Week 3 and Term 3, Week 3.
· You will need a scientific calculator and reliable access to the online course materials.
