Stage 2 Chemistry
Recommendations:
· Successful completion of Stage 1 Chemistry A (1CEM10A) and Stage 1 Chemistry B (1CEM10B) is strongly recommended for progression to Stage 2 Chemistry (2CEM20).
· You should have a sound understanding of chemical bonding, reactions and mole calculations, basic mathematical skills, and the ability to work independently.
What Will You Learn?
In this course, you will learn about:
· Monitoring the Environment: greenhouse gases, air pollution, volumetric analysis, chromatography and atomic absorption spectroscopy.
· Managing Chemical Processes: reaction rates, chemical equilibrium and optimising industrial chemical production.
· Organic and Biological Chemistry: organic compounds and reactions, carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes and triglycerides.
· Managing Resources: fuels and energy changes, water treatment, soil chemistry and polymers.
You will design and conduct safe investigations, analyse data, evaluate evidence, apply concepts and calculations, and explore science as a human endeavour.
You will complete seven summative assessment tasks:
· 2 Folio Tasks (a Science as a Human Endeavour Folio and a Deconstruct and Design Folio)
· 4 Skills and Applications Tasks (Topic Tests at the end of each unit)
· 1 External Exam
Who is This Course For?
· This course is for you if you enjoy chemistry and want to understand how substances interact and how chemistry helps address environmental and industrial challenges. It suits students interested in further study or careers in chemistry, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, environmental science or related fields.
